A friend and supporter of ours, Zachary Norris, just told me about an organization he co-founded in Baltimore called Youth Organizing Urban Revitalization Systems (YOURS). www.bmoreisyours.org. YOURS has really taken off lately. They recieved a fellowship from the Open Society Institute, several small to medium sized grants and a heap of community support. They have grown to three functioning gardens and a regular cast of 12-15 youth. And, most exciting to us, YOURS is going to launch a Mobile Market by the beginning of next year. Zach said People’s Grocery was hands down a major inspiration. Zach also said he’s teaching a unit on community development and last week he taught about the Black Panther Party and this week they learned about People’s Grocery!
